Poem: Before Dawn

Love in retrograde

As to why, my sleep evades

Countless nights

Of a mind betrayed

I cling to reason

Like a hook on a blade

I asked the heavens for mercy

Then got on my knees and prayed

… For a few hours of sleep

Before night fades.
